PERFORMANCE

Inspiration & Tradition

The Native American Flute music heard in my live performances and recordings on flutes, and panpipes is based upon music that is either contemporary, or traditional based upon melodies, and arrangements that may be up to 1000 years old, and new compositions which integrate elements of tradition.

My acoustic guitar compositions are a blend of Baroque, Classical, Native American, and Nordic influences.

Native American Flute Concert

Lakota Longwalker is a Native American Flautist, Folk/Rock/Metal guitarist, Stone Sculptor, Native flute/instrument maker, beadwork jewelry artisan and teacher nominated twice for Native American Music awards as an independent solo artist. He comes from the Keetoowah Band of Tsalagi (Cherokee) of Oklahoma, now residing in Helsinki, Finland. Longwalker’s mission is to share rare and endangered Native American Flute music and perpetuate dying forms of Wind instruments. Longwalker revived extinct methods of stone flute construction which originated with the Inca and Lakota peoples.

His concert consists of traditional Native American Flute Music from North and South America honoring sacred and secular traditions. Instruments that will be heard during this performance are Courting Flutes, Cherokee Transverse Flute, Cochiti Pueblo Drum, and Incan panpipes.

In between songs, the traditions, and construction methods will be discussed for each type of flute, and its cultural significance.

Ikiverso LIVE in Kellarikalleria

Ikiverso

A unique musical journey that weaves music, and storytelling.

Stories of clan mothers, strong women, goddesses, the elements of nature, and the beauty of ancient roots. Journey into the hearts, and souls of the indigenous peoples of North America and Savonia.

The songs are composed on guitar, drum, violin, vocals and Native American flutes. The resulting alchemy is Ikiverso (Tuulikki Jalkanen and Lakota Longwalker), a unique musical ensemble that you won't hear anywhere else. All songs are composed by Ikiverso with the exception of Pre-Columbian folk songs from North, and South America, and songs that are inspired by, and continuing in the Finnish/Karelian spell song tradition.

SOUNDS OF DEEP TRADITION

Most of my music is instrumental. When there are vocals in the songs, the lyrics are traditional Native American songs, usually spiritual in nature, expressing gratitude to the earth and its elements, as well as honor and respect for ancestors and the wisdom they have passed down. These songs often connect the listener to the natural world and the interconnectedness of all things. The melodies have a strong focus on rhythm and harmony with nature.
